Welcome to the Calvin Coleman Studios.

The various developmental stages of my artistic career have afforded me the opportunity to uniquely inspire, encourage, and ignite the senses.  My style has allowed me to free my thought process and use assemblage as an approach to building my paintings.  The resulting artwork is an uninhibited layering below and above the acrylic paint.  My thoughts and imagination have molded me into an artist that incorporates abstract expressionism and fauvism, in which my paintings are built through a process involving the manipulation of multiple media..

At this stage in my career, I seek to perpetuate and develop my skills in such a way that my art offers encouragement, self-worth and beauty in a visually appealing manner.  I have admired the techniques of Richard Mayhew and Chaim Soutine.  Mayhew’s fluidity with color and Soutine’s dense textural characteristics are great influences for the structure of my paintings, which I build using a strong melodic blending of hues, canvas strips and textiles.
